Amsterdam 2007
In June I was in Amsterdam for 11 days at Sensation White and Black events. All those days we walked on the streets of Amsterdam, we visited museums, shops and of course we went to Red Light District where the street was full of window glasses where girls were just ready to be rented, the prices were about 50 euros for 15 minutes of “pleasure”.
Amsterdam is a city full of water canals where the water is steady so when the first warm temperatures come, there is a fly invasion. It was good for us because the temperature wasn’t higher than 20 degrees all the time we stayed there. All the city is 1,5 meters below the sea and we saw just a few buildings higher then 4 floors. On the water canals we saw a lot of house boats while we took a tour of the city in a nice ship and we found out that there are only 2000 houses like this and they are monitored by the City Hall.
We went to Rembrandt house which was very busy and to be honest I didn’t like it because there were just a few paintings. Comparing to other museums this was very small plus that it took us a while to find it because it looks like a regular house from outside.
At the Van Gogh Museum it was busy
From all the museums I visited in Amsterdam the one I liked better was The Science and Technology Museum called NEMO. This museum is very educational, a fun place to find and see smart things. From here I got a lot of puzzles and I am still trying to put them together. If I will ever go back to Amsterdam I will go there again if I will have time.
The Red Light District was full of sex shops and bars where you could smoke marijuana. First time when I saw a woman in a window glass and I had an empty feeling in my stomach because all my life I saw only things, food or cars in this window glasses, never a human being. This street was full of this kind of window glasses but the most shocking thing is that there were a few kids, not older the 10, 11 years old who were smoking marijuana…when I saw them, the first thing that came into my mind was if I would have done something like this at that age where would I have been today or what would I do if my kids will do this at this same age???
Taking some walks there I saw lots of boats where parties took place or weddings or just couples taking a nice ride. It is true that people can party there but if you are not used to drugs things can get embarrassing for you and annoying because at every corner there is someone who’s asking you if you want to buy cocaine. After a few days I got used to this and ignoring them.
All this time we didn’t got out to the city or anywhere with the car because just a few people are using the cars there, everybody goes there with bikes. It’s simpler and easier to rent a bike, an awful one, but I had to adapt after a lot of years that I didn’t used any bike. It’s used to say that you never forget to ride a bike…false…you should know that it took me a while until I got used again to ride a bike (around 20 minutes).
